Self Assessment required for my wife?

Hi - just reading this thread. I've also just found out that my wife needed to complete a SA. Before you all kill me saying I should have known, it was only yesterday that my accountant told me she would need to complete one and I have, until now, followed everything my accountant has said and...

Client isn't paying - do I take the site down?

Things have taken an interesting turn. The client I was working for sold the web application I developed on to another client (which is why the site will be running fine even if my immediate client goes down). Now the client is calling me saying that they have urgent conference calls with the...

Client isn't paying - do I take the site down?

ok - the whole story is that they asked me to develop a set of .Net controls for their site (which I developed and designed in full). The site was almost done apart from these controls. So - I developed these controls and implemented them on the site. Now - I could quite easily remove these...

Client isn't paying - do I take the site down?

Hmm - but what if I knew that changing 1 DB value would take the whole site down and, when they call me to fix it (I was the only developer on the project) I say "Well - I'll have a look for you, but you need to pay me first". I wont be removing files and it would be very difficult to locate...

Client isn't paying - do I take the site down?

Hi - a client isn't paying for work I provided (I built them a website). Should I take the website offline until they pay? If I tell them that I'm going to do that, they will contact the host and change passwords etc. so - should I just take their site offline?

    Best way to finance hardware

Thanks - well, it's pretty much a new computer set up - laptop, software, printer etc. In total will be over 2k but I guess they each count as separate items - I will be buying them all at the same time from the same place (an online order).

    Best way to finance hardware

Hi, I need to get some hardware (laptop, printer etc.). I'm a ltd company. With my wife off work with our new child for the next year, I'll be needing to take most of what I make out of my business account (obviously not tax etc..) to pay the bills. So I don't really have that much in my...

How much would it take to get you to go permie

Yeah - it's all about the lifestyle that contracting allows. Not saying that it's easy or anything but you're never going to get a permie job with that level of freedom. Personally, as long as I'm clearing more than someone in a permie job on 50k I'm happy - it leaves me plenty of time to work...

VAT drawn a day too early

Hmm - lloyds TSB - transfering between personal accounts is instant, transfering between business accounts takes a day.

VAT drawn a day too early

I would imagine it is the banks fault not the VAT people. They wont request that money each month, it is the bank (I would think) who set up and manage the direct debit. Banks can do funny things like that (not actually very funny) If I have a direct debit going out on a monday, I sometimes see...

OK THanks - It's always worth checking what others would do.

Week long contract - contract review?

Hello - I'm about to start a week long contract. Do you think it's worth getting my contract reviewed to see if it falls outside ir35 or would the cost of the review negate any benefit I get from operating outside (if indeed the contract does fall outsdie). I then also have a 2 week contract...

    Maximise take home pay

He opened his question with "I'm a contracting newbie" i.e. he's only just started and needs to ask loads of questions to learn how it all works. I really don't understand why, on every internet forum I've been on, there's always someone who enjoys nothing more than giving himself a stiffy by...

    First wage slip

Maybe he means that he gets his payslip from his accountant which is correct if he's caught by ir35 and being paid a full sallary.
