    new laptops

After years of mac (only because they last so much longer) I now need to upgrade. Rather than dropping 3/4 k on a mac pro - i'm thinking of getting a cheaper apple and a windows laptop too. I use my machines mostly for management type stuff although occasionally still code - no gaming...

    All new - penalties?

NotAllThere thanks - confirmed my gut feeling. I can already sense unpaid invoices and an inability to easily leave given the notice and payment terms...I have a couple of permie offers that pay not much less too so maybe time to convert

    All new - penalties?

Haven't contracted in several years and it's all a bit weird to me. Is it normal to have a penalty clause that requires ££ if you don't provide/work a notice period? Is it normal to have to sign off deliverables (that you are not capable of delivering alone) before having time based invoicing...

Protecting my mums home as one of the excluded

Ha yes Irish but lives in Scotland. Would a lifetime lease protect the house while she's alive? I was an exec - crap at tech these days but good at building tech teams, hadn't used a cv in 15 years, used to being asked to come work places - now suddenly 50 and a pandemic and Brexit all in one...

Protecting my mums home as one of the excluded

I was daft and liquidated my limited company in March so I could get entrepreneurs tax relief. Since then I've had two contracts offered then withdrawn at the last minute due to financial constraints - so no company vehicle anymore to claim BBL or furlough.

Protecting my mums home as one of the excluded

20 years ago I bought my mothers house as she was widowed and couldn't afford it anymore. A few years ago I remortgaged it for 100k valued c160/170k. I sacrificed a home of my own to look after my elderly parent, no grudges but didn't ever expect to be thrown under a bus like we have. I have...

Broken self billing system what are my options

My agency uses a self billing worksheet system. It's not been working for the last four weeks and I have been unable to bill. My client is abroad so my outlays are high. There has been no movement forward. I need those payments and I need them quicker than 2-3 months. What options do I have...

How to deal with discrimination as a contractor

Truthfully that's exactly what peed me off the most. Work for free please.

How to deal with discrimination as a contractor

There is no allowed to work from home. There is "autonomy to provide services as supplier sees fit". In writing. In a contract. Given the continued interruption in the office I decided to work somewhere I could have uninterrupted focus. It was emailed across about 10pm that evening for a...

How to deal with discrimination as a contractor

I'm not sure why you think I'm disabled or indeed why that should be an issue for a knowledge worker - again there are supposed laws regards this sort of thing. Indeed many years ago when I broke my back my client at the time had no issue in me attending in my wheelchair. Didn't affect my...

How to deal with discrimination as a contractor

There is other work out there - but I do prefer to see my contracts through to the end or expected outcome

How to deal with discrimination as a contractor

Assuming you mean how I've posted about two situations that I've found myself in with recent contracts? I'm not sure what you mean by blanks? If you're inferring I tend to revert to sexism as an easy way out you need to know that in my last place it wasn't just me - it was several other...

How to deal with discrimination as a contractor

Thanks Unixman - already on the case. And I agree, I spent most of my career ignoring things as just people being dicks. Now I tend to do little tests to check my suspicions on sexism, racism, other ism's. Only when I've done these do I label it. And god it's more common than we recognise...
