    what about partnerships ?

    Not sure how nessecary it is legally but at least if you're in a partnership you're in a better position to genuinely be able to come up with a substitute (re IR35/substitution clause) I'm thinking about the whole partnership thing cuz I'm having problems coming up w/ a name I'd like to use... :D

    using an offshore company ?

    Ah ok.. Would that mean register and the company (not just employees working in the UK) pay tax to the UK after that 6 months, as if they were in the UK? *I'm listening and paying attention to your advice* :pp I wonder how this works for e.g. outsourcing coding or call centres to places like...

    More 2 year expense queries!

    Well... I think it could mean several things, that's the whole problem! And I think it is more up to what the tax'persons' think it means than me as an average person. Unfortunately I don't get to make the rules... :) Maybe different rules apply, but if e.g. you were doing small-scale PC...

    using an offshore company ?

    That's the bit I'm getting at, if the funds stay outside the UK You'd have a problem (legally) bringing the money back into the UK, but what if by the time you wanted to pay out the assets/cash from the company, you were no longer residing where the company was registered, and not in the UK...

    Favourite coffee

    Out of all the chains... AMT at train stations. Never had a bad one, reasonable price, sensible size and 100% fairtrade. None of that thinking "well for another 30p I can get..." and having a huge cup you don't really want... Wetherspoons shortly before last orders back when they had a special...

    using an offshore company ?

    Hm, what if it's in another country with a slightly beneficial double-tax agreement, and has another major shareholder (resident in the country) who has an active role in the company... say investing €s earnt by the company providing services to the UK As long as the you (in the UK) pay all the...

    Chaning the subnet on Linux and Solaris boxes

    Almost..Solaris you have e.g. /etc/hostname.hme0 (literally hostname not the actual hostname) which contains just the hostname, one file for each interface/sub interface The IP gets looked up from /etc/hosts ...just got the one /etc/hosts That's as well as the netmasks *points a few posts up*...
