    Books

There is the option of paying £50.00 per year to get next day delivery on all orders. Works out well if you buy 2 or more items per month, but not as a 1 book every 6 month customer.

2 year rule versus limited company

It is worth noting (Ltd Companies Only) that the 40% doesn't only include time that is billable to clients, but all work done within the business, such as travel to clients, marketing, product development activities, accountancy, meetings with suppliers etc. the list goes on. It isn't easy to...

    First Time Contract Worker

The easiest way to think of a brolly, is to think of them as just another agency in the chain taking a cut. It is not quite true, but good enough. They are actually taking more of a cut that normal, so they have money to pay your holiday. This may be a more cynical view than other's posts, but...

umbrella company altering contract to avoid notice payment

Thanks So, if I have understood correctly, if my business has a number of associates who do work when needed, and those associates use a brolly, there is no risk of them being deemed an employee of my business if my business pay invoices issued by the brolly. The word "deemed" seems to come...

umbrella company altering contract to avoid notice payment

As HMRC put it, employment status is not a choice, it is based on a set of tests. If we follow HMRC guidelines, a consultant can NEVER be an employee of a brolly, even if they are treated as such for Payroll purposes.

umbrella company altering contract to avoid notice payment

It doesn't seem that simple. I do understand what you are saying. Well, I've had several calls from brollies over the past few years. They called to offer me a service. The service they offered was to have them in the middle processing invoices and paying me money. Not one of them actually...

umbrella company altering contract to avoid notice payment

It seems that it comes down to who is the employer and who is the employee in the relationship, and which of the following actually applies. 1) Consultant uses Brolly - The Brolly is only there for the purpose of processing payroll and getting cash from Client to Consultant. 2) Consultant uses...

    Expenses paid by agency

It is possible to do this, but the amount you receive will be effectively at 117.5%, meaning that when HMRC get their share, you will lose 15% of your expenses claim. If YouCo is VAT registered, or not registered and needed to be registered, it doesn't matter if you charge VAT or not, the gross...

Client has ended relationship with my agent. What do I do?

The alternative here is to negotiate a direct contract, and agree to pay the agent a commission for a period of time on future work with that client.

Mobile Phone for Personal Use but Claimed as Expense...

It has happened, so the only way forward is to pay back the money you now owe your company. If you list the error on your next expenses document, then your expenses will show a negative amount (maybe), and the paper trail will be accurate. Moving forward, consider cancelling the contract and...

Direct contract - Invoicing via Purchase Order

One thing to remember, is that there isn't anything special about a Purchase Order, and it is something that most people here are used to anyway, it just then when dealing with agents, different terminology is used such as "assignment letter", or "schedule".

    New to Contracting

You should make "Writing a Business Plan" one of your first activity, and include a variety of information including suggested names for your business, route to market, even if one of the items on this list includes using agents to make your telephone calls and organising meetings. Other areas...
