So - an update, after almost 3 years.
On 21st May, I received an envelope from HMRC. Annoying on several fronts. First off, they have got may name wrong AGAIN!. How many times do I need to tell them. Second, I have asked them to ONLY ever email me because a) envelopes do go missing between UK...
A quick update.
Having had another envelope from HMRC on 28 Dec 2022, I emailed them to ask what my origin letter actually meant. Finally got a response (3 Feb) and got a sort of apology "I would also like to apologise for how our letter of 24 August 2020 was worded as it has conveyed the wrong...
I have now received one of these - well 2 of them in the same envelope. I honestly thought this was all over and done with since I got a letter from HMRC back in 2020 saying that they will not contact about my disguised renumeration scheme. These new letters are refering to tax returns for 2005...
Last September I received a brown envelope from HMRC that fundamentally says that I don't have to pay the loan charge as the loans were made before 9th December 2010, and as such, I do not need to settle my disguised renumeration scheme use either. Yayyyy I thought.
However, this morning I...

Phil,
One of the things that was being offered when I signed up with you, was the investigation by Smooth Commerial Law into mis-selling. Is this still ongoing and if so, are there any updates?
Thanks Iter, I will just wait for their acceptance letter.
I was also surprised by the no interest. Surprised but very delighted (which is kind of why I want to pay it before they change their minds haha)
Do HMRC send out an invoice or something saying where and how to pay? I wouldn't have a clue where to pay.
FYI - paying it all in one lump, and I didn't have to pay interest.
I am using a TA. When I asked them the same question I got the reply "I would expect several weeks/months before any payment would be made."
Was hoping someone might have a more definitive answer.
Heyho
Having agreed to settled and sent all the necessary stuff to them by the deadline, just wondering if anyone has any idea when HMRC are going to want the dosh?
Finally Got Mine
Finally Got Mine
Mine arrived in the post last week.
Final amount almost a third of the loan amount. Ouch!
Haven't decided what my next step will be - but fortunately I am lucky in that I have got the money to pay.
I can't prove it, and I know it's only hearsay from speaking to some permie friends at the bank I worked at, but back in the late 1990's, early 2000's they all took their bonuses as EBTs.
The fibbers!
The fibbers!
Funnily enough, no settlement figure despite being told to expect it late December - but as I said originally, they didn't specify the year so maybe December 2019!
Still waiting
Still waiting
Not yet - have been told to expect something by late December, although they didn't specify the year.
And judging by the fact that they still can't even get the basics, such as my name, correct, I have little faith in them calculating the correct settlement amount.
