Well, not sure you're right, there's obviously more detail to the situation than I've been able to post here, but to clarify - I work directly for this agency, in their office. The agreement was that I'd be paid £34K pro rata for a four month contract, the agreement was verbal and in email with...
This is bang on the money actually, either they tried to pull a fast one or they made an honest mistake based on miscommunications. I tend to the latter - I was given a choice of being on a perm/ temp contract and be paid through the payroll or go brolly. I went brolly based on looking at...
Hi bunk, thanks for replying.
It's a fixed term context til the end of August. The rate was verbally agreed as being the equivalent of £34k by me and one of the owners of the company/agency and I suspect that what they should pay me to have me receive the pro rata equivalent is not necessarily...
Thanks all.
The agreement was £34,000 gross pro rata, the day rate was calculated by the agency and I took it as accurate in good faith.
Looking at what I'm clearing, and some other bits (see threads in the Umbrella forum) the conclusion is that I'm hit on several fronts and am earning the...
Have been put on £130 by the agency ((34,000/52)/5) but according to the calculator on this site that rate corresponds to a salary of £28,000. Using the same calculator, the rate i should be on is £155.
Anyone with a bit of experience who could guide?
Thanks!
In the other thread I refer to having used your calculator. The result are less than encouraging but transparent and honest (in my experience).
The main point is that had I ever even suspected that I would be paying even a few percent more in tax and fees going through an umbrella, let alone...
Haha, well, that's a warranted question I suppose - I was desperate!
Well, as I've mentioned somewhere here, I am meant to be on £34K pro rata. That was converted to a day rate of £130. Does that sound about right? It was just calculated as (34000/52)/5=£130.77.
The way it currently works...
Thanks Lisa.
I actually forgot to mention that I submitted about £140 worth of expenses for the month of June. They would have been included in the sums above. That means, I suppose, that had I submitted no expenses at all, the numbers would have been even more disadvantageous for me...
So, the other issue I've experienced with umbrella contracting is the following.
I agreed that I was to work through Parasol with my employer agency (I work for an recruitment agency, in house, delivering some marketing related projects) on the basis of a pay of £34K p.a. pro rata. This was...

Hi again Spartan,
Thanks for your advice. As I mentioned I've spent a bit of time on this forum last night and I'm aware of the slightly shady 'employers costs'. The 'other issue' I mention I'll write a separate post about, but that issue clearly affects the amount deducted as...

Spartan,
Did spend a bit of time last night trawling these forums and read that loud and clear. I wish I would have got on here before signing up with them. They're hard-balling me in every instance (Parasol, that is) and no willingness to offer any help or...
Hi all,
Brand new to the forum and also brand new to contracting. This will also probably be my one and only contract and I will certainly never use Parasol again as they've been very poor in terms of dealing with my issue.
The main problem that I have is that the calculator they have on...
