    Another tax return question

Yes, the rules I read say one thing, the online tax return software assumes something different.

    Another tax return question

I have to record the directorship in the drop down list that asks how many employments, and directorships have you had. It then adds an employment page for each item including the directorship. Are you saying I was given incorrect information?

    Another tax return question

Thought I'd mention that I spoke to HMRC today, and surprisingly they were very helpful. I must record an unpaid directorship in an employment page, despite no income. Odd but them's the rules.

    Another tax return question

I have gone through it again, and as I was a director, I must select 2 in the employments and directorships drop down. This then forces 2 employment pages to appear even though the dirctorship was unpaid. So it looks as if I must fill in two employments, all a bit confusing. Hi ho. I also...

    Another tax return question

Thanks all, very helpful. I will read through the comments more carefully, and look at the suggested HMRC notes, at the weekend when I have more time.

    Another tax return question

My accountant informed me I only needed to add my permanent employment which started in May 2014, as I received no salary from my company in 2014-2015, the company closing down.

    Another tax return question

Thanks all, very helpful. I did not notify CH of my ceasing to be the MD. So I was the MD until the company was dissolved. And as I understand it I was the sole shareholder, an employee in 2013-2014, and not an employee in 2014-15. Can someone be the MD, not as an employee, but separately be...

    Another tax return question

As explained before, I ran a limited company for less than a year. In 2013-14 I paid myself a salary for 6 months. The company ceased trading in July 2014, and was dissolved a few months after. I paid myself dividends from the remaining funds (less than the salary paid) just before the company...

    Payment on account

Well, a second opinion. The facts are not sketchy, that's all there is.

    Payment on account

The problem is that I am not an accountant, and do not understand what gives rise to a PoA. I tried to find out from HMRC without success. I did manage to squeeze out of them that a permie job does not generate a PoA. For 2015-16 my only employment will be two consecutive permie roles since I am...

    Payment on account

The problem I had when speaking with HMRC was trying to find out what could give rise to a payment on account for 2015-16 since the 2014-15 dividend was a one off. I'm pretty sure I am okay to just reduce the PoA to zero but I'm asking here to be safe. :smile

    Payment on account

I have filled in my tax return for 2014-15, which consists of a PAYE sum from a permie role, about £37,000, plus a dividend of ~£12,500 from my ltd company which ceased trading in July 2015 (PAYE was taken in the previous tax year). Anyway, the calculation says I owe £1,800 for the dividend, and...

    Yes, a typo.

    Tax return question

Well it is too late isn't it. I know plenty of people in security cleared roles, same as mine, who operate outside IR35. I did find it hard to tell them I asked to be inside IR35 and assumed they did the calculations accordingly. It's a big agency, SJD Accountancy.
  15. G

    Tax return question

I don't have any contract review, I simply told my accountant several times that I was inside IR35 and followed his advice. I didn't want to be involved in the tax calculation. However, the sole contract was only 6 months, the company stopped trading in July 2014, so I suppose they could do an...
