Yes, I had to use my own machine in two different contracts, so it's not uncommon. I always take a laptop with me on day one and I only use the client's machine if that is what they require me to do.
It's so much better to use your own machine, no restrictions and you can have a top spec...
Just to clarify I never handed in my notice. I worked out the 6 month contract as I agreed when I signed it.
I would of been gutted if the new contract was pulled, but if it had I would dig into my warchest and go look for something else. That's part and parcel of being a contractor, isn't it?
I had a boring contract once, couldn't wait for it to end, every day was a drag. I stuck out the contract duration but had no intention of renewing. 6 weeks before the end of the contract I put loads of effort into getting another gig lined up so that I couldn't renew regardless of any offer.
I'm on my second direct client, I've had 6 clients over the last 4 years so not too bad a ratio. I much prefer being direct and I'm going to make the effort to go direct on all contracts from now on. There are some really good agencies out there and I'll probably continue to use them, but...
I think thats the biggest point that some people miss. If you take it out now and put it in an ISA making 7% a year, then in 15 years you've more than covered the initial 25% tax hit. It all depends on what you do with it and how far you are from retiring, if you're close to retiring then...
I usually take what I need to comfortably live on. At the end of year I ensure my ISAs are filled (both cash and stocks/shares) and then remainder is kept in the company bank account. I usually drip feed approx 10% revenue into a SIPP as well. To be fair, most years I've paid some high rate tax...
I've been with HSBC for 4 years and never paid a penny for it. I use the Business Direct account as that has no fees as long as you stay within transaction limits.

That is what appeals to me about the Toyota. My current car is a turbo charged 350bhp monster and whilst I love it, it can be a little too quick at times. Plus the fuel consumption is rubbish. I think 200bhp in a car that light will be more than enough.
To be honest I think it'll be difficult to find part time work as a c# contractor. The only part time contractors I've ever met started off full time with their client and then slowly reduced their hours. Maybe that could be an option?
Personally I think you'd be better off building a war chest...
I don't think it would work with a standard tracker fund. Most platforms such as HL don't give you control over when the trades of tracker funds are made and I think they can only be made at the valuation points, i.e. once per day.
You may be able to do it with a tracker ETF's, such as the...
