My experience has been that the end client has always been honest with me about when a contract ends. The agents aren't, they will try and lead me along.
Even when working on a clients site and for an outsourcer they were honest. Other less well things have happened (i.e a rate cut) of course...
Were you ever a director in his UK company?
You will be able to get a copy of his accounts from company's house in the UK for the UK company only.
Do you share an accountant or is the payment to his accountant from your joint account?
Has he had to make any declarations for a mortgage or...
I don't understand your accountants problem. Most of my male colleagues (with children) operate exactly the same arrangement. My neighbours (female contractor and male at home with the kids) do exactly that.
You both have a share in the company. Your wife will provide some "input" and will be...
Worked there under contract (both Waterloo and Strand) and had both renewed. Felt like a "lifer" after a while.
Shell seemed to go through the IT normal cycles of
1. In house - let's hire permies and contractors
2. Let's outsource now - everyone fired
3. Oh, let's bring it all Inhouse -...
Hi there,
I had a similar problem and contributed to the other thread.
A forensic accountant "expert" was hired by the other sides insurance company and made the same claim as the one your insurance company hired. They used Grant Thornton (from memory).
I however hired another company and...
I can see your point and have been treated in a similar way in the past. Keep any eye out for actual invoices as sometimes people pay power games and lie about their rate.
When does your contract end?
Maybe you are asking the wrong question.
If you advertise for people wanting to work from home you will attract applications from disabled people and others stuck at home. Also from remote areas where there isn't much work.
You may be able to get a lower rate from these workers as they may not...
My Accountant doesn't charge for this service.
Exactly what is the "liaising" all about anyway?
Are they asking for a set of company account or a brief letter as a reference?
If it is the company accounts you should have a copy and can send to them. It's a common request from the self...
Is there are new skill or anything in addition to get out of this contract?
So for example, if it was an opportunity to add some thing really worthwhile to my CV or a company that had some prestige then I would go for it.
Hope that helps and sympathise. In my case I usually find that if...
What govenment agency would you expect to do this?
With experience is that the directors of these dodgy agents encourage poor behaviour and that there is no control on them
The insurance payout is not taxable. Mine wasn't.
Accountants (ordinary) don't usually know about insurance payouts. It as a battle and comes down to which "expert witness" wins. There was little case law to go on with contractors.
Insurance companies (in my experience) pay out on how far the...
I was in almost the same point in late 2001 when a speeding motorcycle smashed into me on a zebra crossing.
Went through 6 years of legal arguments and ended up with a settlement I could live with but was no way near the true cost of what I lost during the accident.
We had the medical...
My husband worked for Capita in London. It wasn't like any other IT outsourcing IT company he had worked with before (or since). The people weren't like the "normal" range of IT people (sorry this is hard to get across). None of them were professionals or even geeks.
There were lots of young...
I have never had a contract withdrawn due to haggling over specific clauses. Agencies and clients I have dealt with have been happy to make changes.
If I am in doubt I have the contract checked and then feedback to the agent/client. Have done so about 3 times now with no problems.
Good luck.
I dealt with this before. Checked the other contractors timesheets and invoices. It easy to do when they leave them on the fax/photocopier etc.
Ensured that the client was very happy with my work. Then waited for my contract to end. Asked for a wage raise (but didn't give a reason) and when the...
