Client bitching about hours- pisses me off!

That's because they have no concept of a job where you actually do something, and so could do it more or less well. Unlike their jobs where you can "manage" for as many hours as God sends. But then Management is more of a status than an activity.

    overseas rates

My experience in Paris is that rates are low. I think it comes from the mindset that social provisions are very high, which may justify lower salaries but that doesn't properly apply to contracting, where you have to pay for health insurance, pension etc yourself.

Work to live, not live to work

Just done Calcutta, Varanasi, Lucknow, Agra, Delhi, Jaipur, Pushkar, Udaipur. North of Udaipur I went to Kumbhalgarh fort, with its 36km of fortified wall, second only to the Great Wall of China for continuous length. India is full of stuff that you haven't heard of and can't work out why it...

    Trains in the winter :-(

The Aussies start Spring on 1st of March, which I reckon is just like all racehorses having their birthday on 1st January. I always used to think of the seasons as being symmetrically distributed around the relevant dates, e.g. the Summer Solstice, alias Midsummer's Day, is the middle of summer...

Work to live, not live to work

Your ambitions are too small. Work for a life, not for a house. I speak as a Boomer who has bought several houses. I just happen not to own any of them any more, after a couple of divorces. I doubt that I will own one ever again, because I started again from zero and I can't afford it in this...

    The Dreaded Question

I've had it go both ways. One place did the money calculation exactly, to give me the same net as I was getting as a contractor. But they only wanted me for another 2 months, that was understood all round, so it was just contracting in a way that the accounts and legal depts were OK with...

    The Dreaded Question

I'd rather have a pie and a pint on my own money than a gourmet meal that I'm beholden to someone else for. I guess I am NCOTBAP.

    Trains in the winter :-(

I hate to be argumentative - no, really - but Spring really begins at the Equinox, so we are still in Winter. Well actually I'm not but that's another point, I'm off in the tropics spending the kids' inheritance, but don't tell PurpleGorilla.

    Generation spent

In dogged pursuit of your idée fixe, you bundle so many different erroneous ideas together, that it is hard to know where to start. The country (but not the Boomers personally) did have a windfall of oil and gas. Essentially the government of the day blew it by selling it to foreign interests...

Will contract rates increase to pass dividend tax increase to clients?

In a free market what should be expected to happen is that that increased costs to the suppliers (contractors) should lower the supply curve, i.e. make it so that fewer suppliers are willing to supply at any given price point. If the demand curve is unchanged, i.e. clients don't give a toss...

If GB leaves EU will I need a new passport right away

Yes, and for every British passport-holder who crosses the channel, a Boomer retiree will be forcibly returned from the Costa del Sol.
