    HMRC self-assessment compliance check letter

Spoke to QDOS and they will be dealing with this on my behalf. They also think it's just a routine random check from HMRC. All in all I'm sold on keeping QDOS insurance running for few more years even though I'm not contracting any longer. They've been very helpful in past and now again :smile

    HMRC self-assessment compliance check letter

Oh no don't even mention option b! Accountant thinks it's the case of random check and nothing to worry about. I've e-mailed copy of the letter to QDOS, will see what they say.

    HMRC self-assessment compliance check letter

A very good point, I didn't think of this. Will give QDOS a call today. I'd be more than happy if they take this out of my hands!

    HMRC self-assessment compliance check letter

Thanks, that's what I thought too. Pretty sure there is nothing for them to disagree, only income was from Ltd, no other sources.

    HMRC self-assessment compliance check letter

Thanks, yes I have both. Will check them. I was wondering whether it's worth renewing when they expire now that I've left contracting. I guess that's a sign to do so :)

    HMRC self-assessment compliance check letter

Just received said letter in the post and am having slight panic attack :eek Has anyone dealt with this and any advice? Is this something routine HMRC do time from time to randomly selected accounts (especially now when they need to pay for Covid/Brexit etc.), or do I need to worry/make a run to...

    Holiday suggestions...

Borneo is amazing; lots to see there and if you are a scuba diver then Mabul/Sipadan is one of the top places on Earth to go to. But by no stretch of the imagination can you call it a city break!

Contractor to perm - how much money to expect (part timer)

Those are excellent points and is exactly why I'm not rushing to sign up to the offer :)

Contractor to perm - how much money to expect (part timer)

I was offered perm role at £54K, there is bonus/pension/company shares on top so total package would sum up to just under £70K, plus 6 weeks of holidays. This is compared to day rate of £500, which is typical rate in my field. I would actually like to move back to perm (I think work would be...

Contractors switching to a Consultancy to remain outside IR35

My main client had just decided to do just that. They hire lots of contractors through small consultancy, which charges the client and then pays contractors hourly rate (so whilst they are real consultancy with other clients and projects, they are acting more like an agency in this instance)...

Quarterly VAT payment: Card v Direct Debit

I've been paying all company taxes (VAT and corporation tax) with my personal debit card lately, just for the sake of earning free air miles. For FreeAgent, I just ask my accountant to adjust the records and he does it via Journal entries somehow.

IR35 reform effect on the client

Oh but it's OK as it's not blanket determination, it's a new company policy (yeah where is that sarcasm emoji??) I work for other clients simultaneously who haven't made the final decision yet, but I think they'll go the same way. Ironically there are contract roles around on offer, 12 months...

IR35 reform effect on the client

Had a conversation with the client about the future. The new company policy is that none of existing contractors is to be renewed; the offer is to go perm. They will continue to hire contractors but there will be limit of 12 months max on total contract length (and they will have to go...

IR35 letters going out to GlaxoSmithKline contractors

Perhaps they get renewed endlessly, or maybe LinkedIn is not always accurate display of reality (mine certainly isn't)? Either way I'm just happy that QDOS accepted my claim and working on my case. I'll keep you guys updated on how it goes.

IR35 letters going out to GlaxoSmithKline contractors

From my experience actual pharma companies are often hiring contractors for specific project needs, but maybe I was just lucky with my contracts. It's CROs who tend to shift contractors between projects (so I'm trying to avoid those); I imagine despite MOO present in contractual terms it would...
