    State of the Market

Lego in Denmark does it all the time, there's constantly some form of reducing costs / redundancy program in place so no one can be sure of their position. This is of course to force people to not rock the boat and be grateful that they have a position. Absolutely soul destroying.

    State of the Market

It is often easier to just lay low and do nothing for years, if that's what you fancy. Especially attractive if the pay package isn't half bad and your manager isn't a psycho, suits some people, lets be honest. And also you don't stick out like a sore thumb for charging £800-£1000 per day...

Not sure it's Brexit, from what I've seen it's always been hard to land work in Germany without some level of German (even job ads in English often have German listed as a requirement).

It's worth noting that HMRC most likely does see this as "destroying" the contracting industry, they see this as a win, the whole idea behind the legislation was to reduce outside contracts. Now whether reduced income from outside contracts vs what they get from the increased amount of inside...

Hey, some say Barrow-in-Furness is lovely in spring.

The question is, why would they suddenly change direction? has anything happened that makes it easier to raise capital and want you to spend money (genuine question)? interest rates are still high, debt is expensive, the golden days of blitzscaling are done, for now at least, so I'm not sure...

    State of the Market

It's pretty simple, pimps just want to fire away a few CVs and await feedback / see where things go. It seems that most of the time there's no feedback, the job doesn't exist, there's no budget etc. so they move on to a different ad and try to find CVs for that, absolutely not giving a tulip...

How did Japan solve the issue of retirement funds? surely they have some sort of national fund which is paid into by working people, so if you slash the amount of working people due to shrinking population, you are effectively slowly closing off the money tap which means the debt goes sky high...

    State of the Market

The whole "I'm leaving!" usually comes from people who have no idea how hard emigration is and who have never lived outside of their own country. Moving your whole family, moving your kids away from their friends / yourself from your friends / family is super hard on most people, let alone...

    Qdos data breach

Just got an email in the inbox saying that Qdos had a security incident and to register with Experian IdentityWorks to claim a free 1yr identity monitoring. Not tried it yet and also google returns nothing regarding this, anyone got anything similar or is this some very believable scam?

Indeed, I've seen this happen on the current contract I'm on, the job spec had some very specific lingo / skills which made absolutely no sense from outside the project, but were clearly written internally and then simply passed on to the agencies to go and fetch (they of course had no idea...

    State of the Market

Job specs are either written to replace someone with veeeeery specific skills (like you say either retiree or someone who simply left to a different position) or they are written with a specific person in mind ie. for internal hires (but the job needs to be announced officially to tick boxes).

    State of the Market

Some larger tech corps that have been originally outsourcing to Poland, have now closed part of the hubs and move worked to India, some to other parts of Easter(n) Europe as work is becoming more and more expensive in Poland itself. Not sure on specific rates as I'm not really in IT, but as the...

    State of the Market

Indeed there's more cultural similarities and it's a shame imho that even those that settled, are often selling their houses and packing up to either return to Poland or move elsewhere (I'm actually really sad to be leaving tbh). Overall though to me the whole move away from European migrants to...
