Thanks, I'm still not sure if I should supply an ITIN or a local tax ID, or if the client would have the right to withhold based on the absence of one or the other. I would rather not share any tax information I don't have to.
Thanks, that link is great. But is this assuming I've been hanging on to my UK Ltd (I haven't) or am incorporated in Europe? I'm just a regular freelancer.
I'm freelancing in Europe and I sometimes do work for US clients. I haven't had to fill out any US tax forms before, but my latest potential client seems a bit nervous, possibly because of FATCA and the ever-evolving regulatory environment.
I have a call with them tomorrow, and they might want...
That's just what I wanted to hear. But it could be that the agency (yours) understood the situation better because they were used to dealing with German clients.
What I need is a backup plan, in case the agency (mine) refuse to understand this set-up, as everybody else thinks they might.
Problem is, then I have to pay taxes in the UK, and the tax authorities where I'm living (Germany) are going to kick up a fuss and say I'm supposed to pay taxes where I'm resident.
Anybody with experience working remotely from abroad?
I'm living abroad, but looking at a promising contract working remotely for a company in the UK.
There is an agency in the middle that will be paying me, just a typical medium-to-large UK recruiting agency.
how likely is it that the agency will pay into a bank account (either UK or European)...
Update: the client has agreed to the compromise: a Monday morning start. :smokin The truth is, they need me just as much as I need them.
They had said they would be frantically busy with a rollout on Friday, but now they are saying the place will be empty and there will be nobody to open the...
Thanks, but it's not one of those states. Otherwise Nov 1 would not have been in the contract.
One thing the agent has suggested is to compromise and go for the Monday (Nov 4). I guess that could work.
On the positive side, all of this is a good test of how reasonable the client is. If they...
I think what happened is that basically the agent gave me a fake start date, signed up to it, got me to sign it, and is now manouevering to get me to try to persuade the client to honour it. In the process, creating a conflict between myself and the client, and potentially jeopardizing the whole...
The client has asked to change the start date, but they have not demanded it as of now. So what I am going to do is email the guy directly and ask if I could come in on Nov 1 and just study the documentation and not get in the way, and work on my own laptop if necessary.
It's not an ideal...
I have a six-month contract with a large German company that I got through an agency, due to start on Friday. The agency sent me the contract signed by themselves, including a start date of Nov 1. There's an option for both sides to cancel in the first four weeks.
The problem is that no sooner...
But I think I should make them realize there is a cost associated with it, so they don't start trying to take advantage and have me fly over every week.
A good range of ideas there. I'm surprised so many people have American clients actually. What is it, rates higher over there now? Or the UK market just too boring?
