    "Retire" early...?

That's because the OP totally forgot about this post! 8 years on... Back in 2016 I resolved to leave my miserable gig when the project and my contract ended at the end of that year. Not necessarily to retire but to have a bloody good break. I left in November, the buggers asked if I'd come...

Parking the Ltd for a year - VAT

Yes. Will see what they say. I'm favouring the fly under the radar approach, but then again I don't like turning down free money!

Parking the Ltd for a year - VAT

It's wasn't the potential benefit of de-registering and any benefit really the paperwork is trivial; it was more: - whilst I intend to trade again in future it's possible I might not, and I think the correct guidance is that you should deregister as soon as you anticipate no further sales. In...

Parking the Ltd for a year - VAT

Hi Folks, This can't be an uncommon scenario in these days of most of financial services being zero-hour PAYE gigs... after wrapping up my last proper B2B contract I've taken an inside role; money is good, project should be interesting and it's likely to last for around a year. Ltd has a...

Pension contributions from Ltd Co when no revenue

I believe pension contributions are only tax deductable in the CT period they are made, so my (quite possibly incorrect) understanding is that you would be able to make a contribution but it could not be offset against tax. Therefore it's a way of getting the money out the company but you'll...

    Umbrella recommendation

Sadly they don't appear to be an APSCo member which is something the agency is insistent upon.

Question for the retired regarding MVL

I've done two MVL's. No problems with the first (not with MVL) but the second (with MVL) was faster, easier and I was better informed. Not that I'll be doing it again but if I did I'd use MVL again.

    Selling Ltd Co with debt

Debt firm buys TipTopps Ltd. Ltd is owed £thousands in Directors Loans to TipTopp. Do these loans exceed the HMRC liabilities? Does TipTopp have assets to this value? TipTopp is bankrupted by the new owners, they settle HMRC liabilities and keep the rest.

    IR35 Insurance

FWIW I do a lot of work with a particular consultancy that has an "associate" model. They mandate all contractors working their outside IR35 gigs hold the same Kingsbridge insurance. I know the owners of the firm very well and made my views known to them that it really shouldn't be my place to...

    Umbrella for ad hoc work..

Bump... I used JSA for around 3 months at the start of this year following the creation of this thread. All was fine although they did make a couple of admin errors towards the end; nothing major but it meant a pension payment was floating around between them and my SIPP provider for a couple...

    Personal Car Damaged at Work

You're both right. The expenses (including wear and tear) are covered by the 45p/mile the OP is presumably claiming, regardless of the insurance position. There is no claim for the OP here. A decent employer would insist on sight of the correct documents including suitable insurance cover...

What age do you plan to semi-retire?

45 and similar to the OP, as the years have gone by the figure I've targeted has increased although no real reason for this as my lifestyle/cost base hasn't really increased. I realised some time ago I do often enjoy work and mainly only become frustrated by time pressures... i.e. work gets in...
