I was called about a role with one of the big banks last week, they give you a choice of 3 Umbrella's one of which was victim to a Cyber Attack a year ago and still hasn't paid me properly .....
Be interesting to see if it actually changes the blanket bans from larger clients - a lot of them might decide just to leave it as it.
But really what a mess - 5 years of buggering about just to cancel it
Yeah its probably that; annoying as the client was reimbursing a load of travel expenses that I'd forked out over the last 6 months so I've been taxed on that which I shouldn't have been! But makes sense; I have at least seen some emails from actual staff in Brookson today so they're still there!
I finished up at a client on Hogmanay; and didn't really start looking until then; ended up with 3x interviews for roles and 3x offers with better rates and terms (Outside IR35) than my previous contract so I'm pretty happy although my time off is a little shorter than I'd initially planned...
I'm through Brookson, ironically this was my last month before going back to direct with the Ltd after securing a new role.
I did get paid on Friday but they've screwed up the tax, etc on it; I did get an odd letter last week from NEST advising that they had been referred to the Pensions...
Folks looking for a little advice - took a new contract in March and ended up having to go via an Umbrella (inside IR35) - and despite the delay to the legislation the client haven't reversed their decision, given the market just now I'll be looking around but happy to be getting paid.
I do...
The EE deal with the Nighthawk Router looks decent, personally I'm using a £20 a month (for 12 month) SIM only 3 deal in a MiFI that I already owned - the only problem is that 3's coverage isn't always great.
You're probably right about the big banks, their need for a flexible workforce will still exist but they'll just go to consultancies instead (and probably end up paying more per day).
Much easier than getting Amazon, Starbucks and Vodafone to pay their tax.
I honestly think Corbyn could hardly do any more harm to the freelance community.
No real reason why not, I do that with the limited income I make from Photography!
The only thing I would say though is that she might be better operating on her own if it was photography as it’s really a market where not charging VAT makes a big difference.
To be fair it wouldn’t be the first time that something’s leaked to the press ahead of the budget to get everyone in a frenzy before they actually announce something bad but not “quite as bad” in an effort to stop folk moaning!
