Yes, that's true ... I'm gobsmacked at the no. of rentals that specify a maximum upper age of 35 (long sailed, unfortunately!). It makes the available pool smaller, but not non-existent. I'm quite upfront about the fact that I'm quiet and bookish, and it seems there are plenty that don't mind...- blstr

Hmm ... that's always subjective & relative. If we were talking a £10 difference I'd agree 100%, but when you start talking £80 difference EVERY week ... that adds up. Also ... time-wise ... you're talking to the ultimate bookworm ... if I wasn't reading at home, I'd be reading at my...- blstr

I've looked at that, but the flights to AMS are much cheaper. A bit more travelling from AMS to Rotterdam, but still cheaper. ? It seems that it's only BA that flies that route ? I prefer BA, but my credit card doesn't ...- blstr

Sorry, yes ... location is relevant. The contract is in Rotterdam & I've been looking at accommodation within a 10km radius near public transport. For the weekly commute I've been assuming Gatwick/Luton/Heathrow <-> Schiphol & that's where my EUR300/return comes from. I THOUGHT about driving...- blstr

Yes, thanks ... I'm actually budgeting 2 full months rent as a fee/deposit & assuming it'll be an expense, not returned at the end. That way anything less is a pleasant surprise.- blstr

I'd love to see a breakdown of what that £3k entailed. 1. accommodation (incl energy, property taxes of whatever sort & internet) 2. travel 3. food ??? Anything else ??? As far as lifestyle is concerned ... I'm low maintenance ... I don't drink (alcohol) at all, don't do the party/nightlife...- blstr

Thanks for the reply. 1. Accommodation. No, there are plenty of private rooms in shared flats available for under EUR 650 / month (Rotterdam). I've been researching this a LOT. The EUR 650 includes bills. As I'll be there on a long term basis I'll be looking at a long term rental agreement...- blstr
