    Business Savings Accounts

You can’t withdraw any of the deposit before it matures if you’ve invested £50,000 or more

    Business Savings Accounts

I'm getting 4.6pc with HSBC business money market accounts. Need to fix for 1 month or longer, I think the minimum is 50k to get good rates. You have to phone them to set it up, but it's easy and the accounts appear on your existing business internet banking, no extra logins required.

How do you manage gaps in CV?

I work outside of IT. I just use years for projects/roles on my CV (eg, Project X, 2022-2024). Probably less useful if your projects/roles are regularly measured in a few weeks/months. No one has ever asked for months instead or questioned any apparent gaps. I've been contracting for most of the...

What's your next career move? What's your exit strategy?

Very few mentions in the responses so far of clever side-hustles that people have. I've always had a hope that I would develop one at some point which would allow me to wean myself away from the man. However, I haven't come up with one yet. I've seen some people come up with some clever ones...

    Business Savings Account

As far as I know the HSBC business money market accounts only come in one variant - fixed for the stated term. Yes, it's pretty poor that you have to phone them and they don't state the current rates on their website. Maybe it's a cynical ploy to encourage current account holders not to bother...

    State of the Market

Well done for getting into oxbridge and graduating. I once wondered whether I could go there for a masters degree, but didn't look into it seriously in the end. I probably considered it for superficial/status/enjoyment reasons rather that what I should have wanted (hard work / improve myself...

How does one get into the oil and natural gas industry? (20yrs in Financial Services)

I worked in O&G for a number of years. I got into it through a friend who was working in it. I would recommend you do the same, forget about useless certificates, etc. Basically you have to be recommended into it from someone inside, on a project that is desperate for bums on seats. You will...

    Doom: Schools falling down

Not just schools and hospitals... our local theatre has just just announced it is closing indefinitely due to the possible presence of RAAC. There goes the panto for the next few years. This is going to be the 'gift' that keeps on giving.

    Doom: Schools falling down

I suspect that the classrooms/hospitals identified to date are just the tip of the iceberg. The work that will be required going forward to rectify this is going to take multiple decades to resolve. If we are notified that our kids school has it, we'll be looking for another school. Years of...

    Business Savings Account

HSBC's business money market account rates are not listed on their website, as far as I am aware. You need to phone them using the number on the page that you have linked.

    Business Savings Account

FYI, HSBC business account holders can opt to put a portion of the warchest in HSBC business money market accounts. For £50k plus, current gross rates are as follows: 7 days, 14 days, 21 days - 0.4pc 1 month - 4.61pc 2 months - 4.76pc 3 months - 4.87pc 4 months - 5.06pc 5 months - 5.1pc 6...

Keeping money in the company vs dividends

The biggest downside to me of building up retained profits in your ltd is the 10pc inflation tax. You might save on dividend taxes if you have future gaps between contracts, but you need to balance that against guaranteed real terms losses on the retained profits.

    IR35 Liability transfer

If the number of replies to posts on this forum is anything to go by, the number of outside IR35 contractors has taken a tumble. Either that or they've found some other forum to discuss these things elsewhere? I'm not a lawyer, but I would guess that any contract that attempts to reverse the...

Huge marginal taxes, inflation and TAAR forcing us into a pension turkey shoot?

By my estimation, the marginal tax on a typical ltd contractor who takes on some extra work to take annual revenue from say 100k to 120k is the order of 51%, assuming they aren't contributing to a pension and taking maximum dividends. We all know that cpi is over 10% and has been that way for...
