Question 1 is - Without a formal contract would you start? NEVER!
Question 2 is - Well from what you said there is no contract yet. But if you start, you are essentially accepting whatever they subsequently choose to throw at you. Not a good idea!
Bear in mind that there are two contracts...
Yes as u say each to their own.:)
Hang on though, are we allowed to use that expression, it's a bit of a cliche after all, so dodgy will not approve of it! Oh dear...
Something tells me that I would not benefit from the advice of someone who is unable to take part in a reasonable discussion without resorting to insults. The fact that you drag it down to this level shows me that you have no proper answer.
From your two posts, you come across as one of those...
I'll do whatever I like, thanks. I was actually seeking to improve the editing on the home page specifically, pretty basic stuff that you would expect someone might be adult enough to take on board.
I would not disagree with that (about the the FAQ). But the FAQ was not the subject of my posting, in fact I never mentioned it once.
The comment found on the home page, that I included in-line in my original posting at the start of this thread, was what I was going on about. In no way was...
But if that happened and if google had a forum that I knew about, that I knew routinely discussed the very issue I was concerned about, then I'd go directly there and comment on it there.

..and is this assertion, that the rate is "none of the contractors business", that I was objecting to. Not only because it is wrong in my opinion, but the condesending tone of it as well.
While I'm on the subject of being condesending, you seem to have a bit of a thing about the word...
I suggest you learn to read.
If you read what I wrote originally, I was talking about what I saw on the CUK home page, not about what was present in the forum discussions.
In terms of the forum discussion, I made the point myself quite clearly that fair discussion takes place in the board...
I've had a (mildly) bad experience with Aston Carter. I avoid them now. I've never worked with Elan.
Good to know about Modis, although I did read that they were into "reference fishing" on another thread.
Nope.
Glad to hear it (glad that you care I mean, not glad that u got ripped off :D).
Err...are u drawing a comparison between these men and new contractors?
IF SO then I've never met a new contractor that would turn down good advice on how to deal with the scum-bag variety of agents.
IF...
