New contract. need a new umbrella

I'm with Paystream and they do weekly payments.

I believe that depends on the nature of the contract with the ultimate client and relationship between the agency and the umbrella company.

When I was with Giant going via a well-known agency I was paid weekly.

Still employed by Giant, I started a new contract elsewhere with a small agency that had never used an umbrella company before. My payment became monthly, on the last possible day.

So it depends.

Do you approach them directly or is that the remit of the consultancy / agency through their PSL?

Do you need to have a proof of contract at the time of application? I am going through the DBS checking and security integrity check at the moment, so I am not sure what to do?

You choose the umbrella company, within the limits of the agency PSL.
If the agency doesn't have a PSL and has never worked with an umbrella company (it happens) you might have to hold their little hand and brief them on how it works.

When you are setting up your account with the umbrella company, they will ask you who the agency / ultimate client is.
They will take it from there.

Usually, they are familiar with the agency already and have an agreement with them.
If so, happy days. They _might_ have negotiated a weekly payment schedule and not sit on the funds for 30 days.

If the relationship between the umbrella company and agency is brand new, they are more likely to reduce their risk by paying monthly and sitting on funds for as long as possible.

PSL will determine who the agency will work with so you ask the agent for the list and the Key Information Documents for the umbrellas on the PSL

Avoid any that won't talk about pension contributions as chances are they will be looking to play games to earn a few more quid in a way they hope you won't notice.

I don't think I will be making salary sacrifices into a pension, because I have personal debt to deal with. If I survive 6 months of this Inside IR35 gig then, cool! Otherwise I'd prefer to go back to Outside IR35, because the way the world is right now. I will keep my LTD going with Clarity Taxation. Volatility is King (or Queen). Projects requirements and inception seem to all over the place in my recent lived-experience 9 - 12 months.
