Interested to know people's plans for next 1-2 years

Many of those options are short term or so small it's irrelevant so not really a list of options.

If you really were open to a list of potential options that will see you through to better times then I think it's very short sighted (and incorrect) relate perm to 'shackles' and discount the option. There are many contractors here that have gone perm and are enjoying it, as do the perms that have never worked any way. I'd re-align your thinking so you make the most of any opportunity that comes along, not get blinkered due to an incorrect attitude.

There is no positive experience from sitting next to someone who cycles into the office and doesn't shower before they start work.

Rubbish! Chap I used to sit next to (before the Cov19 panic) showers at lunchtime. He never smells. He is seriously fit however.

Also a great bloke - but then he is French and not Britsh.....

* stock up on chinese noodles
* watch resident evil movies to prepare for things to come
* start using kitchen towel as replacement for p95 mask
* secure a comfy sleeping spot on the local high street
* become a christian and memorise some prayers
* tell my kids they won't go to college
* preemptively look for a good rope with minimum 90kg working load

You may be able to get a cheaper (lower rated) rope if you spend a significant time living on noodles. You're not thinking smart enough.

Not proud about it but... some things haven’t changed much since then.
On the other hand, you are trying to tell me that you’d be just fine, minding your own business spinning the old hamster wheel with a pretty young thing near you, all sweaty from the morning cycle commute. Smell of pheromones and perfume in the air so thick you can taste it. And you’d go: “Right... I am going to do my timesheet today”?

That's a seriously grim thought.
