    free <or cheap> accounting software

been handling my finances in excel for years, thinking about getting something slicker that i don't have to code.
something that can import CSV's etc.
tried Gnucash, but it crashed trying to import simple bank statements. - C.O.C.
    any suggestions?

Freeagent? Quickbooks? I believe both have a free trial.

Sage One has a free trial and six months half price (full price is £20 +VAT a month). You can optionally bundle in payroll for an extra fiver.

Lots of people like Freeagent, many accountants offer it too.

There's also Xero which is a bit more involved but good for people used to a more traditional approach to accounting (as in, it does less for you).

        I miss MS Money.

        What about something like https://my.moneydashboard.com/

Not exactly accounting software but allows you to report on transactions etc.

          Me too

I'm not a fan of online stuff. - i don't trust any cloud based service with any sensitive data*

*pretty much any data to be honest.

              manager.io

Free desktop download then all offline. I'm a simpleton but it does the business for me (and my accountant)

You can try Pandle (pandle.co.uk) they have a free version and another pro version for £5+VAT/month. They are in the process of getting approved for MTD. We're not affiliated with them or anything so this is just a friendly suggestion . Another options is WAVE (waveapps.com) which is fully free, however there hasn't been any official update on whether they will manage to get MTD compliant on time.
