You could use a Cyclades serial terminal server setup instead.
They work very well for console access to a serial port .

Prefer the RSC since I can poweron/poweroff remotely, thereby saving the planet.

All this is for my massive four-node Sun Cluster, well weapon! Well it will be when the SB2500 arrives from SF, with a bitchin' 16gb of RAM-ola....

Thanks I have the pdf but I can't get any response from the system at all, the RSC packages are already (should have said that!), of course at that stage no worky cos card is not physically installed, so cannot set user/pass/ip and perms.

So, after that, install card, system starts but does not respond so cannot install/config anything at this stage.

I suspect either just not compatible, odd since SB2000 is a desktop version of the Sun E280R which takes the card, and the card also works in an E250, which isn't that different from an E450, the bigger brother - or the RSC is already setup with an IP config inconsistent with mine.

Anyone else?

Install and Configure RSC
1. From the Sun Solaris 8 Supplemental CD-ROM, add the RSC package called SUNWrsc
cd /cdrom/solaris8_202_suppcd/RSC_2.2/Product
pkgadd -d .
Select all packages
cd /usr/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-480R/rsc
./rsc-config

It would be nice to add the possibility to send a "break" with "~#" (just like with "tip")
in console mode. For the moment, one needs three steps:
1) type ~. or #. to return to RSC mode,
2) type break to send a break
3) type console to return to console mode.
This is ennoying, and one might miss messages that appear on the console between step 1 and 2 (they
are available in the console history but that adds more steps to check).

I bought three Sun RSC cards, Sun part 501-5856, five quid each so no loss! I hoped to get them to work in my Sunblade 2000's, but no OS boot. Same with my old E450. I believe the Sunblade 2000 is the same fundamentally as the rack E280R which takes these cards so it should work.

System starts but no output via box itself, either serial or video - guess it's going to RSC automatically, but I;ve no idea and I've no idea if they r already setup with previous owner IPs, any ideas to reset it? Am I flogging a dead horse?
