Isn't it Maestro that gives you free foreign ATM withdraws ? First Direct moved me onto Visa Debit which incurs fees for using abroad

Not only that but I can book my easyjet flights without paying that debit card fee crap.

Nope! There's no debit card either! Stuck with a maestro EC card. But then people continue to use case much more than cards, at least that's my observation. You produce a card at the end of a meal in the restaurant and you get a dirty look.

Cash is king here.

They had cashback in some supermarkets when I was there but still shut everything on sundays. I liked that.

There is de.linkedin.com and I get more German contacts from that than Xing. Xing is okay but gulp is much better, just typing in AIX and berlin gives you over 1500 jobs. There's even a jobserve.de. There are some excellent lowkey contractor sites in Germany where you'll find some very niche projects as well.

Never much comes up in Berlin tho - Dusseldorf and Frankfurt yeah, turned one down is DUS tho a while back - wish I'd taken it now!

Dusseldorf is a good spot to be too, with Koln nearby, you could even get the train to London.

This was Berlin tho, back of beyond Dresdner Bank corner of Sophie Charlotte Platz, Charlottenburg - funny how you remember not being able to get in....

Loved it though, me and the missus will go back one day - she is an interpreter/translator in German and it's all a bit wasted working in Bradford albeit for a German company....

Some supermarkets, i.e. REWE, do cashback

Shops (and there's nearly every type) in train stations and airports open on Sundays. Petrol stations open all the time and have most necessities including copious amounts of booze (unlike the UK.) Quite a few towns open on Sundays a few times a year but who really needs to go shopping on a Sunday, apart from countries living on credit?
