The reality of being a permie has set in fully now hasn't it?
I managed to get time with my boss, outlining that our department has several issues that need to be addressed properly with the correct planning.
Boss came up with the blinding idea of his to re-schedule my visit after planning it properly.
Result.
I get the family time, boss is feeling in control and I get to plan properly for a good meeting.
Happy days

Hi Wilmslow
I always tend to do what my boss tells me to do since he pays my wages.
If I do not want to do what he tells me to do I just tell him to stuff it, throw my resignation note at his face and walk away.
HTH

You can't throw a sickie if you've already grumbled about going - dead give away.
3 options?
- Say you'll be in a better position to understand if you're the right person for the task once you've seen the agenda and discussed with colleagues. (ensuing delays while people try to create a meaningful agenda or better still realise the meeting is pointless might cause the meeting to be bumped a day or so).
- Fly to Southampton? Tell them your car is in garage (it usually is anyway!)
- I agree with others - just say 'family plans, too bad, next time I'll need more than 24 hours notice to rearrange'
