    That's the way to do it

    The other year I agreed a sum verbally with a client (no agent) and then found that the contract specified a higher sum. Being too honest for my own good, I mentioned it to him in case there'd been a mistake.

    He just laughed and said "Yeah, I've found that if you give people more than they ask for, they like working for you."

    I later discovered that all of the permies had started on salaries higher than they'd expected compared to the amount they'd pitched for at interview - sometimes quite a bit higher, simply because he thought they were worth more than they themselves did

    If Carlsberg made managers...

    More that i asked for.

    Takes me upto my year me messing around on bikes quite nicely.
