I staye din Niederau, not so good for beginners IMHO Andora is better for that, but the snow is the issue. In 2006 it was quiet poor

The only place you'll be seeing snow in early December is the highest bits of Austria.
Have alook at Obergurgl.
No snow = expensive walking holiday.

Soldeu is the one to go for or El Tartar which is a bit quieter, don't be tempted to stay anywhere else as its likely to be a coach ride away though I think they have linked the main town by cable car now but its a hell of a long journey.
Soldeu looks great. Now just to find out if they have snow in early dec.
Thanks man

Could you give me the names of the resorts you stayed in there or can remember?

Thanks GingerJedi... i think I will look into Andorra too.Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostI agree La Tania or 1650 for a chilled and cheap stay in the 3 valleys, I stayed at Le Floride Hotel in 1650 which was fantastic, the entire place was run by 18 year olds who didn't seem to care less for Inghams profits judging by the amount of free drink they gave away, when I tried to book the following year I found out the hotel had been knocked down, maybe it didn't make enough money?
I don't agree with your Andorra comment though, have you been recently? The two main areas are now linked with one of the most modern infrastructures around and for the money you won't find anything like it in Europe. I had a week full board in a 4* spa hotel with pool, Jacuzzi, steam rooms etc in Feb for £300!

Apres Ski in meribel excellent too and you can cab it back resonably cheap.
Andorra cheap, but crap.

I've booked last minute deals on lastminute.com (though not in December) and got holidays for about £200 per person. Was willing to go anywhere in France and ended up going to Serre Chevalier twice, different village each time. I really liked Serre Chevalier - it's very different from most French resorts, lots of skiing between trees. Possibly not ideal for someone who's only interested in Blacks. Villenueve (sp?) is probably the best of the villages, and I would avoid the biggest town, Briancon, as it's right on the edge of the ski area with only one lift. (You have to cross a footbridge over a road to get to to the lift.)Originally posted by themistry View PostHi guys,
im sure lots of you have gone skiing in and around Europe. I could use some advice.
1) For new skiers, where would be the best place to go? I have skied before (10 years ago!!!!
), it will be a first for my wife/others.
2) I could do a city break in 2 days, however, how long would I need for a ski trip to make it worth while?
3) Assuming there are just 2 of us, can you recommend places to go?
4) And assuming there are 6-10 of us going, can you recommend places to go?
The cheaper the better.
Thanks all

haha thanks, requirements change over timeOriginally posted by TheFaQQer View PostBloody users - change the specification completely, and then moan that the solution doesn't meet the job!
LM will give you a couple from Manchester to Switzerland.
Wasteland will give you about 10 or so, but no idea where they go from.
Alternatively, and it may have been suggested already in this thread,
You guys have been really great, La Tania looks fantastic. And wasteland also looks promising.
Cheers!

There are only 4 of us now going. I previously tried LastMinute.com, but get nothing leaving from Manchester. Opening the search to every airport in the UK gets 2 results.Originally posted by TheFaQQer View PostTaking the big group that you mentioned in the first post, there are five different chalets coming up on Wasteland in Les Menuires, which hasn't been mentioned so far (that I saw), but is good for beginners.
Alternatively, there might be some kind of website for looking for things at the Last Minute where you could find 97 skiing holidays for groups departing in the first week of December......
What were you searching on?

you'll need to go high (as in altitude) or north for a decent chance of seeing some snow.Originally posted by themistry View PostThanks for all your replies folks.

What do you mean that they do?? Surely not...
