Not sure 40 billion will cover it.

So Trump wants NATO to spend more, then a few days later is meeting Putin who is already sensitive about NATO countries near Russia's border. Should go well.
Ah got it, Trump is going to invite Russia to join NATO.
Though with the way Turkey is regressing into an Islamic fundamentalist dictatorship, maybe this isn't so far fetched after all, if the USA and Russia see Islamic extremist states (including Iran) as the new enemy.

Just to liven things up a bit:
https://www.theguardian.com/politics...defence-review
https://www.theguardian.com/politics...itary-spendingThe US defence secretary, James Mattis, in a letter to his UK counterpart, Gavin Williamson, hinted that the UK’s close relationship with the US on defence matters could be undermined unless it did more. If not, it could end up being supplanted by France.
A Whitehall source said the modernising defence review, on which work began a year ago, had fallen foul of a stand-off between May, the chancellor, Philip Hammond, and Williamson. Talks over the past fortnight have failed to resolve differences over Williamson’s push for billions more in defence spending.

Only a handful actually do commit to 2%. They are lying (again).Originally posted by tomtomagain View PostIt's a classic Trump "win".
Gets the headlines slagging off NATO. Turns up. Announces they've ( NATO, ex-US ) have agreed to increase spending.
Whereas all they've done is recommitted to the 2% target.

'yeah the NATO is not for us. It's a bad deal. A big bad deal. We're done protecting you guys, but we're going to leave our weapons here, Mmmm okay.'
Just realised, what if... the US withdraws from NATO and May's cosying up to Trump during the visit.... my goodness, Corbyn, save us!!

I wouldn't bet any of your hard-earned on either of those things happening any time ever...Originally posted by Jog On View PostI'd say they know what they are doing and are acting in their own interests. Germany isn't just buying Russian gas they are facilitating a pipeline to let more of it into Europe. As for NATO - no one actually wants war with Russia, NATO is just a cash cow for the MIC which is why Trump is yelling at other countries to pay more.
The sooner we get away from fossil fuels and abolish war/arms for profit the better.

The chances of the USA withdrawing from NATO are less than the chances of you booking into a decent hotel and successfully claiming it back on expenses.Originally posted by scooterscot View PostImagine trump voice

no, no, no the reason there were no conflicts in Europe since the fabulous French (the ones who hadn't surrendered) single handedly rebuffed a small contingent of misguided germans (twice) is the Glorious EU. In fact the EU has meant we avoided all conflicts worldwide other than those started by the great Satan and its allies.Originally posted by woohoo View PostErm no, we just arrest and seize illegal fishing vessels. Eventually the message will get through.
Regarding the US, the biggest reason for peace in Europe is the US. Instead of posting spiteful, negative comments about the US, just remember that.
Tusk you are a tit! You can't be part of a Golf Club, Bar Round etc if you don't pay your membership fees. As you know its only fair. Next you will be expecting Galileo gps guided Unicorns to protect your country the next time some nutter gets into control in Europe.
