    A true furlough - where you get a call out of the blue and they say, don't come in for x days (and don't get paid) is great for MOO.

    This situation doesn't help though - the "obligation" is made clear from the outset in the contract - also it just happens to be the same amount of days that permies need to take.

    Most financial institutions have a mandatory holiday/exclusion period for staff for just this reason.

    During a previous gig with a certain Canary Wharf IB, it came to light that they were likely to "impose" a 2 week furlough on contract staff. Asking around, surprisingly enough they'd pulled the same stunt the previous year. What a surprise that the agent didn't mention anything about that one eh?

    As my luck would have it, the furlough coincided with a previously agreed period of "non provision of services" so I wasn't exactly heartbroken. The measure was purely a cost saving exercise from what I could see and had I been due to work during that period, I would have pushed back and called their bluff.

    Ironically enough, a month after their little cost saving exercise, they instigated a 10% rate cut across the board to take effect in January (bunch of twunts). I was due to leave at the end of January so I waved goodbye to them and walked into another role paying my original rate (pre cut) + 10%.

    Currently mid way through the 2nd 6 monther, with a verbal likelihood of renewal come September.

    Bloody hell man, you are boomed. There are plenty of people sat on the bench who are having an enforced holiday a lot longer than 25 days....

    I'd keep quiet and hope they forget about it.

    Have a look at where your contract is going to need you the most and then tell your manager that you are duty bound to honour the clause and that it needs to be those weeks see how long it takes to be written out. (of course they might just say yes...)

    Bummer. At least you spotted it now and not in November! Enough time to budget it in and think about kicking off a plan B or getting some training in the spare time if you can't find a short contract anywhere else...

    I budget for 46 weeks per year, so its not that I'll be out of pocket, just frustrating to not have the choice.

    Need to find a couple of week long contracts.
