You can get a place for much less than that, the obvious downside is it's usually for 12 moths at least. If you factor how much cheaper that is it still might be cheaper to get a studio for a year than a hotel for 6 months.
Finally you won't have have to carry your toothbrush up north every weekend
In general Liverpool Street is connected very well, so if you really want the gig, just commute every morning and evening like millions of Londoners do until you start hating it and realise that money isn't everything.
In the meantime you can play with the iPad while commuting.

bang opposite Kings Cross there's loads of dodgy looking places but which actually turn out to be quiet, clean, warm.
Have stumbled into several after missing the last train...usually get £45 a night incl breakfast, ensuite (you defo want ensuite).
Some have biro writing on the walls which makes for a nice read.
They usually let you see the room before paying if you want.

A few stops on the tube to liverpool street.

I used to live in Brentwood and commute into London. The train from Shenfield to Liverpool Street was 22 minutes. You might find a hotel/b&b on the commute line that, with the train ticket, still works out cheaper than staying really locally.

No, this was back in the days when I didn't know what contracting was [insert joke about how i still don't] and I was an unfortunate permie! However, I do actually live about 25 mins from liverpool street, so an oyster card isn't too bad.

You can set Mon - Friday options, if you put in Liverpool street and set it at a 3 mile radius you'll get a good choice. Tends to vary in terms of deposits and who you live with. I have lived with a couple of lunatics unfortunately, but if you are travelling light you can move on quite easily.

Or look at the central line east of Liverpool street, it will be cheaper to live, but perhaps not as enjoyable as spitafields or angel (if you like going out to bars etc). The central line in the rush hour can be horrendous though.

Re. hotels...I've looked for cheap hotel/hostels in London that are bearable before. Cheapest I found was a room in a hostel at 60 a night but it was way too noisy and grim. If I was ever stuck/overstayed my welcome at a relative's I used topsecret hotels on lastminute.com. That was usually £80 a night plus, but got to stay in the hilton and some city hotels, but I'm not sure if that's any use for doing block booking.

For what its worth, I worked at UBS for 4 years in London. Nice place to work for, people generally friendly and laid back although it obviously depends what dept you are in. Hours were pretty good too, for what it was. But I agree, that temp accomodation can be extremely expensive and make it less appealing, unless you are willing to rent a room further out and then still communte 30-45 mins each way?

You couldn't find anywhere nearby that was reasonable enough to afford on 600/day??

I'm already in a contact for less than that obviously (but not that much) but my only current expenses are season ticket on train - £250 a month and I get home every night.

I reckoned the weekly expenses to to be 700 quid plus there's the away from home factor - that's 140 quid off the daily rate already.

Still ongoing this one, they want to DV me - hence my post on that a while back, which also makes me a bit nervous, and means also absolutely no WFH....

This has dragged for a month or more already, so if come end of current gig (April) it might be ripe and I'll have no choice!
