You don't say (I think) whether role for US client would be in UK or abroad? That will make a significant difference.
It may be worth your while having a short consultation with an accountant on these issues.
To be accurate your current permi employer doesn't take care of all your taxes - they merely operate PAYE - its down to you to make sure that the overall taxes deducted are correct.

Switching from a permanent UK job to a contractor job oversea. What to do?
Good evening,
I'll try to make it brief: I'm currently employed by a UK, inland company, so my employer takes care of the taxes, NI, and so on and so forth.
I might be able to land a job as a contractor for an oversea company, based in US and which doesn't have a presence in the UK. How this would affect my employment status and my taxation schema? How can I calculate the taxes I would pay and above all how can I inform the UK government about the change in my job position?
Sorry for asking the obvious but I don't have a clue about where to start.
Last but not least, even though I'm from Italy, and
I have legal rights to work and live in UK, I'm not a UK citizen: will this have any difference in terms of applicable/observable laws?
Sorry if it's the wrong place to ask; in case, would you be able to provide me with contact information of someone which can answer my questions?
Thanks Again!
