You can now take PHI out via Cavendish Online, who are online brokers who don't charge commission.
However they don't give advice.
When I took my own policy out I went to a broker for advice but due to his behaviour I went to a different broker. They found the same company etc. Both of them charged commission as at the time Cavendish Online weren't doing PHI.
Edited to say: I checked my policy and I'm covered being a director. And it was also checked yesterday by the broker who confirmed it.

I looked into this last year - using contractor money, the quote was ridiculous, too high monthly fees for very little in return, it wasn't worth it for me.Originally posted by administrator View Post
I have two different mortgage protection one would pay a good sum for sickness for a year, its very expensive, the other is a regular life. I divided it into two policies, so if I get a serious illness I have one year to sort out my finances, e.g. sell the house, move etc.
