No threshold particularly but do get a good idea of expenses and gauge how it affects day rates. There has to be a minimum where its just not worth doing.
Work it out on a worst case to start and then plan on chopping it down when you get there. Saving 10 to 20 quid on accommodation parking and food a day makes a big difference in the long run.
That said that was the old days. I'd take a much lower return just to off the bench in an outside gig at the moment. So I'm a hi dred quid down compared to closer gig but still works out better than a few month on the bench. I dont think I've got the luxury to be picky in this period.

I work out what it will cost me and add that to the day rate.Originally posted by VillageContractor View PostHi,
I'm curious about whether others have a threshold % of rate for expenses? I'm staying away during the week and trying to keep to keep costs down to a minimum but just want to know whatsothers do.
Thanks

Plus a bit more depending on how little I want to do the travel.
For example. for central London, 2/3 days a week every other week, which I enjoy doing. I'll add maybe £150 a day to cover hotels, flights and meals. Note that £150 a day is for all 5 days irrelevant of whether I travel.
If it's Dover, or some other such tulipehole, that's dreadful to get to, I'll stick £300 a day on top as I don't want it anyway.
Even better get the client to pay the expenses, but offer to have a cap so they know it's noit going to go OTT.
