    vat on food

Remember that some foodstuffs do have vat on them - I think if they class as luxury foods - dont I remember that there was some argument about the difference between cakes /chocolate digestives and ordinary biscuits ?

Sysman is correct though you can only claim back vat if you have paid it (and can prove it).

    1) no, because there isn't any VAT on bus and train fares

    2) no, because there isn't any VAT on food. Except of course on prepared food - restaurants, takeaways, etc.

For anything, you can only reclaim VAT if you have the proper VAT receipt, as Sysman pointed out.

    1) No.

    2) Only if you have a VAT receipt, with a proper VAT number on it.

You really should read your VAT handbook.
