Hiring a subcontractor in the EuroZone

I am looking to hire a subcontractor for some freelance work. He's from Italy but moving to France and is confused about his tax requirements. I know it isn't my problem but I thought I'd ask to help him out.

Anyone got any pertinent experience? He is likely to be working a fair amount but still on an hourly freelance rate not a typical contract.

Or is it better I deliberately don't get involved so it can't be linked to me if he does something wrong?

Have I got this right? You are asking a bunch of UK contractors about the tax situation of an Italian moving to France?

Kudos for wanting to help but... erm...

People might have done the same, or have knowledge from working in the Eurozone. Some people here are just quite knowledgeable on these things.

      If not, no harm asking.

In principle it's simple, you pay tax where you work. If he works in Italy he pays tax in Italy, if he works in France, he pays tax there.

I will make the presumption he will be living in France, then if he does the work there he should contact a local accountant and set up as self-employed contractor, however it's done there.
            I'm alright Jack

I'm actually unsure if you were being sarcastic or not but thanks

Not at all. It's what I'd say. You don't want to give him some really bad advice, and there are too many pitfalls.

                  Not that simple.
If he works in France and he is paid by or on behalf of a French company then he pays tax in France. If he lives in Italy and is paid by a non French company he pays the tax in Italy unless its more than 183 days.
Every scenario is different and depends on double taxation agreements
Belgium,Germany,Netherlands and Luxembourg have special frontier agreements.
