Opt-in and Opt-out: Need advice still on my first contract (I won't renew after end)

    Hello all,

I read this thread here on Opting in or Opting out: http://forums.contractoruk.com/busin...-2003-act.html

The agency has sent me a blurb on opting-out benefits and asking me to do that. This is my first contract.

By reading various articles my understanding is by opting out means I may not be able to contact client directly for a while, and I may not get paid if the agency does not get paid.

I am still unsure whether to opt-in or opt-out on my first IT contract.

The contract is 5 months long and I don't see myself renewing it even if they offered as I will achieve what I want. And I probably won't contact the client again until a 3-4 months if I want to work with them again.

Any advice on whether it is better to opt-in or out based on this situation?

Opt in. Why do you think the agency is so keen for you to opt out?

Opt out. It's fine. But insist on weekly pay so you're not putting money at risk.

Either opt in, or take the protections that you want from opting in and negotiate them into an opt out contract.

Chances are you can't opt out by now, if you've been introduced to the client.

I have already met the 'director' in a previous interview meeting so not sure if that counts.

The agency has a 5 month waiting clause before contacting the client directly.

If you try and opt-in they'll make it so hard and onerous you'll cave in. I have everytime and to be honest I've never suffered. But then again I've never worked via anyone other than the big agencies that have been around for ages.

                    Hi Stek,

Do you mean you have opted-in every time? This is one of the larger agencies as well.
