    Should/ can I change agency?

I was contacted by an agent regarding a role just over a month ago. I liked the sound of it and agreed to him putting me forward and sent him the usual email stating "I agree for you to solely represent me for this role etc..."

Since then I have been contacted by another 8 agents about the same role. This has never happened to me before. A couple maybe, but never 9.

Looking at the job spec, it's like it's been copied from my CV. It's the closest match I've ever seen for me and looks to be exactly what I do. I'd be amazed if I don't get short-listed at least.

One month on though, the agent is saying he's not heard anything, he's chasing every day blah, blah and on this occasion I'm finding it hard to believe.

So, is there anything stopping me saying to him to pull out to allow me to go with one of the other 8 that might represent me better?

If not, what can I learn from this?

The only thing you can do is ask one of the other 8 to check you have been put forward for the role, then submit you if you haven't been put forward. Some agencies will bother others won't.

You should add "on the condition the CV is sent to the client within the next 48 hours"

When I'm not sure I tell the agency and he rings up and checks. It's not good for the agent either if your CV has already been presented to the client, so normally they'll be happy to check first.
        I'm alright Jack

          What they said.

9 agencies is a bit ridiculous though (assuming they have all been engaged by the client).

It's been a month. either the OP wasn't put forward by the agent or he didn't make the cut with the client, in either case nothing to stop another agency trying.
