In a Permie Role Offered Short Term Contract

Hello,

Just after a bit of advice... I'm currently in a permie role but have been offered a contract, however, its initially only three months but with the view to extend. Do I leave a permanent position for a three month contract or hold out for an initial 6 month contract somewhere?

It's your life so this one is your decision. If you have done no research in to contracting first then dump it. There are plenty of contracts out there you can take when you are good and ready. Should you take it just because it landed on your desk. IMO? Hell no.

When all said and done, if you couldn't cope with being sent home on Day 1 (or even before) then it's not the move for you.

1 month, 3 month, 6 month - indications at best, but ultimately meaningless. Most companies will honour the whole contract day to day, but there's so little binding them to it that it's not even worth thinking too much about.

I've been in this 4 week contract since Jan (Be done soon, though, after tipping the scales at 7 months), but then last year I had a 2 monther finish early because, well, I finished the work early.
