Over the years I've noticed that people in estate cars are more likely to be slow. Especially those big Volvo estates.

Perhaps it's because when you are driving something large, you need to exercise more care and attention, rather than just fling it around the bends and hope for the best ?Originally posted by Doggy Styles View PostOver the years I've noticed that people in estate cars are more likely to be slow. I always make sure the chaffeur keeps the Bentley under 40, otherwise the wear and tear will be hideous, and more importantly, it's difficult to keep one's Cristal at the correct poise for cultured drinking.Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

You do understand the concept of a speed limit I assume? This is the maximum permissable speed under the laws of this country, not a recommended averageOriginally posted by Doggy Styles View Posttravelling at 35 mph on a 60 mph road

What annoys me is that even if the speed limits drops to 40 or 30, they will STILL be driving at 35 mph.Originally posted by Doggy Styles View PostIf you're in a line of traffic travelling at 35 mph on a 60 mph road, the car at the front is driven by a member of the The Secret Brotherhood of C***s.

I think you missed the point, and perhaps that's my fault for not making it clear, sorry.Originally posted by SuperZ View Postsuperiority complex, like.

The point was your sentence was punctated by lots of "I's", hence it was noticable that you emphasised the "me" factor.
I can see what's confused you. You thought me highlighting the "I's" was because of poor grammar. It's not. You've completely misinterpreted my post.
The point is that the main focus of your sentence was yourself, and the inconvenience you feel, and the trouble you experience, and the hassle you get.
In other words, it's "me me me".
Does that clarification help you ?Last edited by Board Game Geek; 29 November 2009, 01:41.Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. You're right.Originally posted by Halcyon View PostYou do understand the concept of a speed limit I assume? This is the maximum permissable speed under the laws of this country, not a recommended average

I think a lot of drivers feel that if the speed limit is, say 60 mph, then they have to do 60 mph or more. Anyone doing 50 mph is somehow wrong, for whatever reason.
I've never understood this personally.
A bit like a supermarket saying "you can load up to 10 items in a basket for free", so everyone loads 10 items. Why ?Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
