Personally I’m planning to settle with the help of an advisor. I’m not sure I can mentally deal with HMRC / AML any longer this saga is making me ill.
Any closure must mean final and in writing before any settlement + you want AML to write these loans off after any settlement. Don’t want them coming back in future making more mess!Comment

Send an email, or better yet a recorded delivery letter to HMRC.
That gets you on the start line.
The loan write off is a matter for the lender. Some are helpful, some less so.Best Forum Adviser & Forum Personality of the Year 2018.

I've been browsing the comments on this and having also received the emails this morning, I'm feeling pretty anxious to say the least. Foolishly I clicked on the link to request info from PST which I'm now regretting.
I have contacted AML to get a copy of the loan amounts but I suspect that I wont hear back from them. I could potentially go back through bank statements to get all of the loan values, but then what do I do with them? Do I contact HMRC directly? or is it better to go through an independent tax adviser? If I register for CLSO, do I do that directly through HMRC?
Any advise will be hugely appreciated. Like many of you, I have a mortgage, a husband and 2 young children that will be affected by this.
thanksComment

Hello,
I am sorry to ask this, but desperate for advice regarding these issues. I am new and been reading and re-reading this thread several times and researched the issues to some extent but the more I read, the more uncertain I become. I have contacted some independent advisors but they would like me to pay before telling me info. I just can't afford that at the moment and not sure who to trust. I am wondering if someone from the forum would be willing to help clarify a few things, via private messaging, regarding this? (I need to get pm rights first though). I am not one for sharing too much on a forum and do not want to add to an already very long discussion. I am afraid that I might cause more confusion.
Thank youComment

I also heard back from AML last week who have provided me with the details of loans for each year I contracted through them, which I have now passed on to the specialist so they can discuss and negotiate (hah!) with HMRC.
What a bloody mess. Am just so angry about the back-handed manner in which HMRC have gone about this.
Hate to think about the thousands of others who have no idea about LC2019 and will get the shock of their lives come next April.
Absolute b*stards. HMRC, that is. And the damn MPs who just signed the whole thing off...
Will be leaving the country soon thereafter methinks. Time for a fresh start.Comment
