Builders, painters and painters are self employed not contractors.

There are I am sure a number of other contractor types hanging around here - oil, gas, tv, health, finance I am sure the whole spectrum are represented maybe they don't always speak/contribute!

So clever clogs, if they just "hang" around and dont always speak/contribute, how the feck did you figure out that they exist ? Last I knew, the admin was not sharing all the forum user base data with some idiot like you. Since ancient times, a forum has been a place where people could meet to engage in discussions, have debates or socialise.

I don't see that it's helpful for posters to belittle other people's questions as "stupid" or by telling them to "do a search" without offering further detail. Taken to it's irreducible minimum, you can find an answer to any answerable question by doing a search so why have a discussion forum at all?

If someone asks a simple question then the good and the great here will often post a clear and concise answer with a link to the authoritative source for further information. Feel free to throw your insults around in the pub or the playground if that is the limit of your wit but let's not let them degrade the value of the professional parts of the forum.

There is also an "ignore" function which works well and serves as a reminder that a particular poster is someone you don't want to engage with..... Try it, it's quite liberating.

Easy, some of the posters are from non IT people if you read their posts in Accounting/Legal and Business/Constracts.

Anyway I'm not trying to start any stupid debate, as posted above I hadn't read the home page in years - yes it does say it is for IT contractors, so you win ok?
