      As I recall when Poland joined EU in 2004 we gained an access to (then booming) job market (in exchange for cowboy privatisation of our national wealth) but not to the direct welfare benefits except for free schools for kids and NHS. I do not know any Poles who draw unemployment, housing supplements and all that.
