Recession? What recession? "My" market seems to be booming, I have my choice of very lucrative contracts, all working from home too. No bobs on the horizon yet, could it be that the much vaunted Indian education system isn't really that good yet? Is bob behind the curve on his skill set? Simply, like most of you lot, learning no-barrier-to-entry commodity skills e.g support and development in mainstream tech? Or is it, as I suspect, that the very best bobs go to the US rather than here?

I just quit my contract as I refused to accept a forced rate reduction. Two weeks to go before I leave. Have got a couple of courses booked the following week and am just tapping up my contacts at the moment. Niche field so I'm hopeful I won't be on the bench long but to be honest I'm looking forward to some time off as I've worked solidly the past 10 years....my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...

That's because you live in SAS Fantasy World where ICTs haven't yet been invented.Originally posted by sasguru View PostRecession? What recession? I had this very discussion last night over a curry with my Indian manager. He asked me about Indians taking over as the competition was high in Silicon Valley. Sunnyvale is now 12% Indian and he reckoned in a few years it would be 50%!!!Originally posted by sasguru View PostRecession? What recession? I introduced him to the concept of Bob and he agreed that because of the high education in India and cheaper workforce you're all fooked. He said he planned to go back to India with a load of cash and then run offshore teams replacing 'Daves'.
Made us chuckle over dessert. What happens in General, stays in General. You know what they say about assumptions!Comment

If you are good and not too niche, there's work. Banks are laying dead wood off.
I've had 3 calls from London in 2 days, and im down under. Just got off the phone to a recruiter in London. If you are into front office trading/risk PM me and I will pass on the details. Actually forget that, I'll post it on my linkedinLast edited by aussielong; 14 March 2013, 10:29.Comment

The Bob I worked with in the 90s was already in the UK, but his sister had made it to the US and he was planning to get there too.Originally posted by sasguru View PostOr is it, as I suspect, that the very best bobs go to the US rather than here?
His whole family saw the UK as a stepping stone to the US.
He couldn't program his way out of a paper bag though, so I wouldn't be surprised if he never made it.Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.Comment

But that's my point. I reckon the general level of higher education in India is not up to scratch ( a fact admitted by the big consultanices in India) and that therefore Bob competition at the highest levels of technical competency is virtually non-existent.Originally posted by MarillionFan View PostI introduced him to the concept of Bob and he agreed that because of the high education in India and cheaper workforce you're all fooked. .
They tend to cluster en masse at the lower levels where mediocrity is tolerated, hence all the whining on this forum.
There are a handful of excellent higher education institutions in India, but like I said their grads go to work in the US for the likes of Google, Koontface and Twatter.Hard Brexit now!
