Meanwhile tax breaks for the rich, blatant corporate tax evasion and banker's bonuses are being rubbed in their noses.

If you aren't prepared to stand up for yourselves in those circumstances then when are you ever?

Don't get me wrong, I know there are inefficiencies all over the place in the Public Sector and parasitic consultancy firms bleeding it dry as well but this is people protesting abouts terms and conditions both parties signed up to when they took the job. You guys would be the first to moan if a client drops your rate part way through a signed contract.

They do nothing of any value whatsoever. They work in monopolistic environments where the needs of their customers are less important than any other facet of their existence. In the private sector we can take our business elsewhere whereas public sector have the public by the balls. The very fact that they are able to strike proves that that they are entirely self serving. Businesses do not go on strike because they cannot afford to - the same should apply to public sector workers. The rich at least create wealth and there are very very few of them compared to the sheer number of public sector workers. Contractors may moan when their contracts are changed but they deal with it themselves instead of going on strike and abusing any privilege of being a monopoly.

Yesterday at 4.00 pm I went for a haircut and they were all pouring out of their NHS offices over the road to go home.

As for tax avoidance I would suggest that the rich and the corporates are better at spending money than our government.

Make it a 2-3 month walkout for ALL prison officers, that would save a load in prison costs once all the inmates are dead, and the officers are out of jobs cos there are no prisoners left.
Never has a man been heard to say on his death bed that he wishes he'd spent more time in the office.

What happened to the Doctor's threatened strike, did the government cave in?

That is what they are supposed to do but even you could not argue that these people are managed or incentivised to work as efficiently as they should,

Nope and I made that very point in an earlier posting.

However, you obviously hold these people in some sort of contempt as beneath the lofty Private Sector workers. Many of these people add considerable value to society and they have as much, if not more, right to their contractual rewards as certain bankers claiming bonuses despite tipping the global economy into recession.

Small flaw in that plan as the riots in the Summer showed.

Very few doctors actually supported it.

There are those who live in the real world and have partners who run businesses, have been made redundant, have had pay freezes etc, and those that aren't members of the BMA.

                      Quite.

Contracts can be changed - for bankers as well as public sector workers.

If they don't like it they can go work private.
