Unfortunately management ONLY look at the cost per consultant - they either have no clue about or disregard quality, technical ability.

And probably cost as much as 'good consultants/contractors' do, Indian, European or any other nationality.

It's changing though, as more and more skills are being developed offshore - but costs are rising as well. On the whole, the skilled visa system was a good thing had these huge bodyshop Indian consultancies not abused it for ICT's -
they flooded the market with cheap, sub-standard workers produced on their assembly lines.

I work as a contractor in the UK and bring some niche skills that wouldn't be available otherwise (I also identify with the liberal social values and ethics here, as long as they're around. Quite saddened by the sense of 'decay' you perceive day by day :-( but still hopeful, and hopefully, contributing to making things better etc.).
Thankfully, i've been able to differentiate myself from the vast majority but the generalisations do create prejudice.

About the "decay" thing - what do you observe?
Not having a go or being defensive - just curious.

Couple of minor points from the Luton contingent.

There are a lot of highly paid, highly competent Indian doctors in Luton. My GP is "proper" Indian, ie born bred and edumakated over there. Then came here to build a life. Proper nice bloke, I have a funny story about penile thrush but that's for another thread.

My point is this. Given that India is chuffing huge, and that the average IQ in India is higher than that of Europe, is is possible that those fortunate enough to be from a wealthy enough background to get educated, get educated in something worthwhile like medicine, and the consultancies then drag the farming stock and slum dwellers in, give em some basic training then sell them on at top dollar? And if this is the case, who's the muppet here, the UK based firms doing the hiring, or the Indian consultancies raking in all the dough?

Sorry if I have offended any of the PC brigade, IANAR, I have been on the rough end of an offshoring project so sympathise with some of the comments on this thread.

Sorry, that line made me laugh. Reminds me of London as well, where everyone seems to walk around with a scowl, god forbid you crack a smile at a stranger!

I'm Indian born and I hate these and aspects of society there.
Indeed, I think you've hit the nail right on the head there! I suppose it does come down to survival of the fittest?

Also as a side note away from the subject matter, something else I found when I was much younger, is on the cuisine side. I've was informed by many that authentic Indian curries are usually much milder than variants in the UK and quite distant from most restaurants and takeaways. Comes to quite a surprise when an Indian cooks a meal for you and it is different to what you would experience commercially.

The entire point about London is that people don't want to engage with you unless they know you, don't want to be stared at for being different and just want to be annoymous.

If you crack a smile at someone for no reason they think you are mentally ill.

You can talk to people in certain circumstances and smile at them once you engaged with them but cracking a smile at someone first is a definite "No no".

It was explained to me more than once that most chefs in bog standard Indian resturants are actually from Pakistan so no way are they cooking their own cuisine. Also most of the dishes are made up just like some Chinese dishes.

On another note what amuses me with ICT workers is that not only are their British people of Indian origin, who can understand them but other British people who are definitely not of Indian origin understand them as well when they don't talk in English.

I've enjoyed listening to discussions where some have talked about lying to client management before actually doing the deed, and me telling client management what they are up to. If you are going to try and grass on me about something I've done which I've already cleared with other people including your manager, then I owe you no favours.

What did you base that statement on?

The only study I have seen is the contentious IQ and Global Inequality- Red is Low and Blue is higher btw

Channel 4 is facing a race controversy after deciding to give a platform to scientists who claim that white people are more intelligent than those who are black.
A documentary, fronted by former BBC News correspondent Rageh Omaar, will interview professors who claim brain power is linked to racial grouping.
It will include claims that the most intelligent people in the world are North-East Asians from parts of China, Japan and North and South Korea.

IIRC correctly India got an honourable mention.

It was on Channel 4 and in the daily mail so it is fact.

You mean a program based on the work of the people who created the world map in the comment above yours that clearly shows India as a shade of brown rather than blue.

Then to justify your gibberish you link to an article in the Daily Mail that doesn't contain any mention of India within it let alone giving India an honourable mention.

Sometimes I do wonder how you manage to write such total and utter rubbish.
