New Dell Laptop - no pcmcia slot????

Ok my fault I should have checked but I honestly thought that all laptops have at least a couple of pcmcia slots.

New Dell laptop uses an Express Card slot that looks the same as a pcmcia slot but ISN'T!

I'm now snookered because I need to connect my Vodafone 3G card and can't so the laptop is useless to me unless anyone knows a work around this?

ASB - Can you elaborate? Thanks

Hi Milan, I've been back in the UK since November and I'm about to start a 12 month contract in London week after next.

        I don't think Vodafone do a 3G express card??

Villa is fine, we're renting it to someone who is waiting for their villa to be built.

Can't you get pcmcia to USB 2 adapters? Haven't a clue if you can, so it isn't a rhetorical question.

            http://www.elandigitalsystems.com/usb/u132.php

The spec lists Vodafone 3G cards as compliant.... indeed it is advertised with one in the adapter.

"Take your 3G wireless internet access anywhere using the U132! This USB adapter allows the use of a wide number of high speed datacards via a USB port enabling these PC cards to be used with a desktop or laptop without a CardBus slot.

The U132 is ideal for customers who live in an area without high speed wired internet access, or whose laptop does not offer a PCMCIA/CardBus slot, such as the new Dell latitude X1 models. The adapter is compatible with desktops, notebooks or specialist systems (such as Point of Sale machines)."

Id look around for an alternative supplier though as it says they are taking orders for next month onwards...

Basically you have 7 working days if you decide you don't like it you can return it.

There should be info about it on dells website. Otherwise google is your friend.

Heres a likn to the regs at the DTI.

              http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/guide/distsell.htm

If it was a business sale they might not apply. But if you paid by a personal CC that could make a difference.

I think EU regulations on mail order are that by law you have a 14 days cooling off period. Most companies do not like to let you know about this though. However, taking the wraps off i.e. opening the packaging, might invalidate that right.
