I just like last year's Daily Mash headline "HAMILTON WINS WORLD CAR POINTING CHAMPIONSHIP"

Roy Hobbs, who gets paid to talk about car pointing, said: "Hamilton has been destined for this moment ever since he learned which button made it go and which button made it stop.

Murray should win. he is the highest achieving British sportsman in the context of the competitive environment in which he plays. He plays a sport that is played and watched by huge numbers of people, and he is competing with a generation of tennis players who are arguably , collectively the best that there has ever been.

In motor racing only 20% of the contribution comes from the driver, so not Jensen Button (team award only).

Ryan Giggs is not even Manchester United's best player of the year let alone a contender for top sportsman. He should win a long term award.

Finally the word is "personality" not "interesting personality". So everyone qualifies under this title. No one is defining what that personality should actually be.

          As for the rest

The competition was a lot stiffer was last year... in Olympic's years the award generally tends to go to a gold medalist - although Mansell & Hill won it in 92 & 96 respectively.

But he hasn't yet won any of the 4 majors. When he does, he will probably get it - and deservedly so

But it's a public vote, so the definition is whatever the public decide it is - and I bet that most people do vote according to a definition of "interesting personality".

Since when did the ability to punt round a football, when you've got no O-Levels, amount to having a "Personality" ?
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Button will be second. Murray third.

The rest are likely to suffer from the "Who?" factor.
Nearly! Should have guessed some token eye-candy for third spot.
