More info required, is it going to be your only transport or just for 2 hours on a Sunday?

Elise will put smiles on your face in the twisty bends or on a track, it will make you weep on a commute.

350Z will make you weep at the fuel pump.

S2000 is the best all rounder IMO, but I am biased.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

          HTH.

Is this a contractors forum or some sort of gay civil servants fest?

We, well the wife, has got a Nissan X-trail so it won't be the only car.
Will mainly be for me at the weekend going to tennis matches or meeting mates to play golf. I guess that rules out the Elise really. I think S2000.

Contractor doen't mean stupid. Those people are called traders or Sasguru.
Why waste money on a car when you can get an 5/6 yr old S2000 for around 10K. Great car. It's only for the weekend/evenings.
At least I'm not talking about replicas.

I think your choices are (sports car = 2 seater, open top, meaty engine) in order or consideration:

                  1. Early Porsche Boxster - Good but getting a bit tired at £10K
                  2. Z4 3.0i - I like these but they are hardcore suspension
                  3. 350Z open top - Hairy chested but it's just a Datsun really.
                  4. S2000 - Not a fan myself. Engine needs 9000 rpm all the time. Gets tiring. Handling is tricky. Reliable mind.
                  5. Old shape TT - 4 wheel drive, 225 bhp, metrosexual VW Golf.
                  6. TVR - Will be broken all the time, hard work to drive.
                  7. Elise - A bit feminine, hardcore, tiny, easily broken, best on a track.
                  8. MX5 - Too weedy to be called a sports car.
                  9. Merc SLK - Old shape, not good at all.

Definitly my 1972 Morris. Lovely colour and only a little rust. radio stopped working though. You'll make the girlies giggle when they find out about the manual choke.

                      350Z gets my vote.

Some nice examples out there for 5-8k
