What's it like to live on the NE coast - Cullercoats, Whitley Bay etc?

I lived in North Shields for a couple of years. It was ok except for the rats and heroin addicts. Tynemouth is nice though if you can get a sea view.

I would look further up the Northumberland coast if you want something upmarket on the coast - Amble, Alnmouth etc.

No. Redcar. Truly grim. They filmed the Dunkirk scenes for "Atonement" in Redcar. When you imagine what Dunkirk would have been like when the Germans had finished with it and then you consider that it was the reason why they used Redcar, then you get an idea what Redcar is like. And it's cold.

Tynemouth is very nice, Whitley Bay is ok if a bit rough. Further north along the cost is really nice, but not a great commute to Newcastle. If you want to find work up there as a contractor in these times, you may be up for a shock.

I stayed the weekend in Whitely bay. The other hotel guests were getting ready to go out drinking, and it was only just after breakfast

Tynemouth looks the best bet so far from what I can find/heard. Looks nice.

I will be embarking on a non-contracting business venture, so work up there is not important.

Whitley Bay looks to be spoiled by stag/hen parties.

What is Blyth, Seaton, New-Biggin-By-the-Sea like?

Can't go much further up the coast than that.

What? Throwing in the contracting towel Mr Prawn? (Can I have your contact list...).

What's the new venture, meals on wheels for Sally Anne?

Blyth - heroin addicted charver capital of the NE, avoid at all costs. Seaton Delaval & Seaton Sluice are ok but not much character. Newbiggin is good but you're getting more out in the sticks.

Fed up living above a kebab shop so I thought I might as well buy one.

Can you go up as far as Alnmouth? A very nice little town on the seaside, if you like a bit of seclusion..

                      North East

I love the north east. Been in Alnmouth, Alnwick , The Shields, Newcastle, and up and down the coast.

Its probably my favourite part of England, vying with the West Country(Except Swindon).

But, seriously its just too cold, that wet nasty cold which doesnt look much in degrees , but claws at your bone marrow.

Based on that I dont think I could ever live there.

Its beautiful though, but some times quite difficult to understand the locals as some have very broad accents.

(And they fry fish in dripping , which makes it very rich)
