Well there is some very strong stuff in the OT. Condemnation of homosexuals. etcetc.

I suggest your start with the OT - gives you a much better idea of what your God is like. He's forever smiting and threatening people. Interesting that 5 of the 10 commandments are all about himself - he's a very jealous God isn't he?

OT is seen as a bit of a ramble by the church, it is largely ignored. The catholic religion is meant to be an interpretation is how Christ lived his life and implementing that into how we live. The church sees the teachings in one way and they are not universally adopted.
