What this thread tells me is that there are 2 kinds of people:

    1) The fat, obese, weak, poncy motorists with small willies who drive unnecessarily large cars (thus filling the government's coffers) to compensate for their personal inadequacies.

    2) The hard, fit, tough cyclists who can deal with a bit of drizzle and are too sensible to waste money.

    Hard Brexit now!

      2) I have a backpack and/or panniers. I carry clean clothes when required, pack lunch, foolscap notebook, phone, mp3 player, couple of other things. I have carried a laptop in the past but don't need to at the moment.

      3) Most the time I am in the same office at the same desk. Again, that's applied for most of my working life in all sorts of different jobs. I'm not a salesman or repairman. Why would I need to move about, apart from the odd meeting in another building or something?
      1) I wear a suit and tie every day. There have seldom been shower facilities that I would enjoy using at any client site I have worked at. Having a locker at the client's just reeks of permiedom to me.

      2) I utilise my own equipment where possible which means taking in my own laptop etc every day.

      3) I move between different client sites/offices regularly. These are too far apart to cycle.

In summary, cycling is just not a viable option.

                Oooo smell the vitriol.

Just because it takes you 15 minutes to get your fat arse out of your car.

Sorry to hear that. But enough about your problems, we're talking about cycling here.

I cycle and run, as a hobby, so it's not real vitriol. I drive a car to work because at the moment it's 90 miles away. It used to be 5 minutes away and I never took the car, I walked or cycled.

There comes a point in a journey though when it's no longer a casual cycle into work and you have to get geared up, you have to shower, change etc, and then it's no longer fun.

For me that point lies somewhere between 5 mintes and 90 miles.

If I may address your specific points...

Noise? Only if I floor it and then there is no sound more beautiful.

Dirt? You shed more skin on your cycle trip than my cars spit out of the arse end.

Congestion? Nope, I start work early and leave when I want to avoid congestion.

Danger to others? Well get out of the bastard way then!
